Why I came to Wright State

There really is not an interesting or exciting story about why I decided to come to Wright State. I had originally planned on going to Ohio University. I went and took a tour of it and everything-I really liked it at first. But then I went back and visited my cousin who lived there. I realized that Athens is about two hours away from just about anything, and there is not all that much to do there. That would be fine and all for the school year, but I would get really bored on the breaks and the weekends and stuff. OU is a really nice school and all, but it just was not for me. I also considered going to Ohio State, but decided against it. I chose Wright State because it is close to my house and I can still live at home while I go here. I also participated in a program called PSEO in high school, which allowed me to attend Wright State part time while in high school and get college credit, all for free. They even paid for the books. I didn't really think much of it when I first enrolled, but I have actually come to like Wright State. I'm enjoying it more than I expected, I've met some interesting people, and it's nice to have something to do.

Lookin' out my back door

When I was growing up, I was not that much into music. I didn't really get into it until high school. But one band that my family and I have always enjoyed listening to is Creedence Clearwater Revival. And my favorite song of theirs is definitely "Lookin' out my back door."
I like this song because it's lively and happy. It cheers you up. It also brings back fond memories with my family. This is one of those songs that, whenever it came on the radio, we would always crank it up and dance. And whenever we were on a long car trip and my parents were arguing or someone was pissed at someone, I would just pop in the CCR CD, turn up this song to the point where no one could hear each other talk anymore, and by the end of it everyone was in a good mood.
I think the purpose of this song is to cheer you up, and to get you to tap your foot along to the beat. The genre of this is sort of like a rock and roll/country mix, but as for the audience, I think that anybody would enjoy this song. The stance in this song is definitely happy and upbeat, but in a relaxed, laid back kind of way. The design of this song is such that it conveys the author's simultaneous sense of liveliness and tranquility. This is a song I will always enjoy listening to because it always brings out good things.

The Godfather

This week I have chosen to write about one of my favorite books of all time, The Godfather. It was written by Mario Puzo in 1969. In 1972 Francis Ford Coppola teamed up with Marlon Brando and Al Pacino to bring this great work of literature to life. Now don't get me wrong, The Godfather is one of the greatest movies ever made. But, as it usually goes, the book was better.
When I first found this book it was by accident. I was in the school library looking for a book to read when I stumbled upon a huge, ancient looking, dust covered volume in the fiction section. Intrigued, I withdrew it from the shelf. The first thing I noticed was the worn but still visible hand-and-puppet logo embossed in silver on the front cover. At that time, I had not yet seen the movie, but I recognized the symbol for what it was. Immensely interested, I immediately checked it out and took it home.
It did not take me long to find out that I had discovered one of he greatest books ever written. If you have not read this book, read it. Even if you have already seen the movie and know how it ends, read it anyway.
Going from the book to the film, it is probably the best adaptation I have ever seen. Marlon Brando, as usual, was unforgettable. But the real surprise came out of Al Pacino. At the time, he was a rookie, fresh out of acting school, and had never had a major role in a movie. Francis Ford Coppola decided to take him on, and the result was that he far exceeded everyone's expectations. This movie really made Al Pacino what he is today. Robert Duvall was also good in it.
